I'm an addict

What makes you think a writer isn't a drug salesman?

Kurt Vonnegut from the novel Cat's Cradle

It's true-books are drugs. At least, they are for me. They are an escape from my own life, a mood enhancer, a wild trip and something I crave daily, something I can't live without. I'm a hopeless addict not looking for a cure.

My own particular drug of choice is fiction. All kinds of fiction. I do read non-fiction and things like poetry and plays but not to the same degree I as consume fiction. Right now, I have 4 books on the go; a historical romance, a paranormal romance thingie, a fantasy epic and a mystery novel. Different reads for different places (but the paranormal werewolf/pact with the devil/Russian gypsy book was because it was the closest book I haven't already read when I sat down to eat breakfast. It's entertaining. ) because I find that I need something light to read at the store so I can put it down and pick it back up with no problem. I save the thrillers and stuff for home, when I can really sink into them.

I know that I have an addictive personality so I always avoided drugs and didn't drink all that much. Stupidest argument ever to try and convince me to try drugs: "You're just afraid that if you try them, you'll like them.". Uh, yeah! That's the whole point! Nice try, stoner, you're not going to win me over with that logic! That's exactly why I don't want to do drugs; did you think it was a big mystery to me or something? I don't want to end up like the burnt out headcases. *snort* I still laugh when I think of it.

But I have been known to play a videogame for 12 hours straight or stay up to finish a good book in one sitting. It's all about your drug of choice. Mine don't do permanent dain bramage.

But, Skrykey, everybody's doing it... Come on... Just one taste... :P

LOL! Yep, that's how it works. I started with a little Dr. Suess, then some Roald Dahl and those SRA things at school; next thing I knew, I was hooked on novels!

Roald Dahl. He rocks. :) I stopped at him though. I didn't go for the hard books.

LOL! the only thing i'm addicted to are "food lusts" that come in waves, normally during pms. I used to be crazy about books but then came the internet and changed all of that... I do still love them though. Just not as much as my crack. Er, I mean... my WWW! LOL

I know, TD-sometimes I have trouble pulling myself away from the net to read.

Damn these multiple addictions!
