A rant

I have my display windows all torn apart and ready to be Hallowe'enified. I just realized that I've only got a week until Hallowe'en so I'd better get cracking at it!

My appointment for my hearing went like this: got my hearing tested, confirmed there is a slight hearing loss in my left ear-and otherwise, nothing.

Or rather, I may have the early stages of Meniere's Disease, which isn't really a disease but a set of symptoms that they don't know what the underlying cause is, there's no definitive test for, and all they can do is treat the symptoms. So if I do have it, all that the doctor can do is monitor the progress of it as it potentially destroys my hearing and vestibular system (which is responsible for balance and equilibrium). That's very reassuring, isn't it?

This is the same doctor that insists I don't have a chronic sinus infection, either-despite all evidence to the contrary. I'm not impressed. I did a little research on Meniere's, and there are some people who believe that the symptoms are caused by an underlying condition like sinus problems or dental infections or anything that might cause inflammation and fluid build up in the inner ear. So, treat the underlying problem, Meniere's goes away.

I'm going to book an appointment with a naturopath today. I'm sick of treating the symptoms of stuff. I'd like to treat whatever the imbalance in my body is, so I stop having symptoms. Mainstream medicine isn't doing much for me; it's time for alternatives.

I'm not going to sit calmly by, waiting to see if I'm going to start suffering horrible vertigo and progressive hearing loss until the nerves are so damaged, I go deaf. That's just stupid.

Stupid doctor!

OMG... can you see another doctor and get a 2nd opinion?... that's just so unprofessional. Not impressed :-/

hope you get better! *hugs*

Meniere's Disease? Are you sure that it isn't Munchausen's?

hehehe.. Just messin', Skrykey.

Have you tried changing diets? If you get ear infections, sometimes it's the food... *whistles and avoids eye contact*

Good luck with the naturo.

I don't know. I have an appointment with my family doc today, and I'm going to ask her.

Unfortunately, if it really is Meniere's, there aren't any good treatments even for the symptoms.

So, I'll see if a naturopath can get to the bottom of things. If that doesn't work, I'm thinking accupuncture. Anything!

Yeah, i just booked the appointment with the naturopath. Pricey, but Bear's insurance will cover it.

First appointment is an hour and a half!!! and the follow up is 45 minutes. So at least it should be a comprehensive exam. They offer allergy testing, and often go with an elimination diet. I don't have anything to lose, right?

Good luck! I was actually joking about the elimination diet... But it's probably a good idea. Things like gluten intolerance can manifest in unexpected ways.

I hope you can get it figured out. :)

I hope the appt today went ok too.

I had to look up about 37 words in this post.

The point?

I'm not smart.

Hope everything goes well!
