It's too early

Despite knowing how important sleep is, I stayed up until 3am last night. Silly me. Bear and I were watching new episodes of Dexter. And we don't get much time together right now because our schedules are so opposing, so I gave into temptation and stayed up with him.

So now, it's too early and I'm up anyhow. Yay, me. :)

This should be an interesting day. There is a rally/march in favour of legalizing pot happening downtown this afternoon. The organizers are expecting 500 people to show up in the waterfront park and then they're going to march up the street to the MP's office. Guess what street? The one the store is on.

I knew about the rally but didn't think too much about it until a cop came into the store yesterday to make sure I knew about it. They're planning a full police presence to make sure things go smoothly, and asked that I not put my sidewalk sign out until after the rally. WTF?

What are they expecting to happen? It's a bunch of pot-heads! (I know, I'm stereotyping! Give a girl a break, OK?) What violence would happen here? Their main argument is that legalizing it would cut down on organized crime. Are the police expecting some sort of gang land shooting to happen or something? Really.

It just freaked me out a bit because the cops have never made a point of visiting all the local businesses for any of the other rallies over the summer; not even for the Pride festival. (which drew 3 whole protesters, and 2 left right away when they saw how outnumbered they were)

So Bear is going to be at the store this afternoon. Just in case.

Can't be too careful.
