Remember When- Nora Roberts and JD Robb

This is two linked novellas by Nora Roberts; a contemporary Romantic Thriller under her own name, and a near future Romantic Thriller under the name JD Robb.
I enjoyed the first part quite a bit. It was exactly what I expected it to be; a well-told tale of romance and sex set against the back drop of a jewel heist. Likable female protagonist, guy most women would love to meet prior to him finding that the protagonist is the love of his life, engaging supporting characters and a despicable villain in a thriller that moves at a good pace but remains believable.
The second half picks up in 2056 with the grand-daughter of the pair in the first half, and features Lt. Eve Dallas from JD Robb's "in Death" series of murder mysteries. While the writing itself remains strong, for me personally it just didn't click. I couldn't engage with the characters or plot very well and I found the near-future setting off putting. Maybe it was too much cyberpunk light for me.
Anyhow, if you're looking for something to pleasantly pass the time, you could do worse.
